Truck and Auto Accidents

The Dangers of Distracted Driving

Every day we drive highways shared by multiple kinds of vehicles. From small sports cars to big SUVs to big rigs, the roadway is not only full of cars but the personalities who drive them. Not everyone is as alert as you would want a driver to be. Distracted driving is the leading cause of car accidents in the United States. Distracted driving is when a drivers attention is taken away from the road because people check cell phones, writing text messages, eating food, or putting on makeup. A driver gets distracted when they get comfortable while they are driving. This is a common phenomenon. People are used to driving the same routes and they start to not only get comfortable with their car, but they get comfortable with the road. Drivers of big trucks are no different.

Dangers Of David And Goliath

Truck drivers are meant to be extremely alert drivers. Truck drivers have specialized licenses that require them to know more about driving these larger trucks. The problem with truck drivers is that they are human. They are no different than regular car drivers. Truck drivers also get comfortable with driving, but when a truck swerves into another lane it has the potential to swing several cars and not just one. Trucks can weigh up to 80,000 and can be as long as 53 feet. This is the length of several cars. Truck drivers can only do so much to see cars, but sometimes cars can go unnoticed.

This was the case of a black car driver who was traveling southbound was trying to turn onto a ramp to go westbound. A semi truck was turning left to go on to that same westbound ramp. The semi truck did not see the black car but it was too late. The truck hit the car leaving 1 dead and the two others in critical condition. In the famous story of David and Goliath, the young boy David wins because of his faith. Unfortunately, this analogy does not work with truck drivers versus car drivers. In the end, David, the cars, will always win over the trucks.

The truck driver waited until police arrived. The truck driver was not injured, but that was not the case of the other drivers. Truck accidents are always more fatal than regular car accidents due to the size of trucks. If you or someone you love has been injured due to a truck accident then it is important that you find a personal injury attorney who specializes in truck accidents.
